Even if you don’t have experience caring for a reptile, you won’t have a hard time with a bearded dragon. But all this also depends on whom you buy the dragon.

If you buy from a good breeder, your dragon will remain healthy for a long time. On the contrary, if you buy your dragon from a bad breeder – the one who doesn’t care about dragons – then your dragon won’t remain healthy for a long time. That’s why you need to buy bearded dragons from breeders who are both good and reputable.

Fortunately, there are lots of good pet stores from which you can buy healthy bearded dragons. Petsmart, an American chain of pet stores, is one of them. Lots of bearded dragon owners have bought pets from PetSmart. The reason behind PetSmart’s popularity is pretty obvious. But, how much are bearded dragons at Petsmart?

Well, at PetSmart the price of bearded dragons varies. But, on average, expect to pay anywhere between $ 60 to $ 80. The best part is that if you don’t have this much money, then you can also pay in installments. You have to give $ 15.00 for 4 months if you are paying in installments.

But, still, you shouldn’t blindly trust retailers when it comes to bearded dragons. Mistakes can happen.

Do Bearded Dragons at PetSmart have Vet Assurance?

Yes. As per PetSmart’s website, all the reptiles they have are vet-assured. This means that if you buy a bearded dragon from PetSmart, then it won’t have any disease or medical issue. The vendors, on the other hand, also screen reptiles for common issues. But, still, if you want to make sure that your dragon doesn’t have any issues, then there’s a vet service as well.

Equipment that You’ll Need After Buying Bearded Dragons From PetSmart

Sure, bearded dragons are beginner-friendly reptiles. But this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t buy anything for them. You need to buy everything that will help your bearded dragon live a healthy life. Let’s see what is something that bearded dragons need to live a healthy life.

1. Terrarium

Bearded dragons are quite territorial. That’s why you can’t keep two bearded dragons in one tank. If you keep more than one bearded dragon in one tank, then there’s a chance that both of them will hurt each other. Further, sure juvenile and baby bearded dragons will be fine even if you put them in a 20-gallon tank. But always remember: the bigger the better. Bigger terrariums are always best for bearded dragons because they provide lots of space to explore.

2. Light

Bearded dragons need two lights in their tank: a heat lamp and a UVB light. Fortunately, both of these are simple to set up. You can find these lamps in almost every pet store. Just make sure that you know what should be the temperature of the basking spot, the warm side, and the cool side of the tank.

Further, you also need to install UVB light in the tank. Since in captivity, bearded dragons don’t get sunlight, they need UVB to make vitamin D which helps them absorb calcium. Without calcium, bearded dragons can get metabolic bone disease.

3. Substrate

The substrate is the bedding that must be present in bearded dragon’s enclosures to mimic their natural habitat. Without substrate, bearded dragons can’t have a healthy life. There are lots of substrates that can be used as bedding for bearded dragons. Reptile carpets, ceramic tiles, paper towels, rubber shelf liners, gravel, and crushed walnuts are a few of those substrates that can be used as a substrate for bearded dragons.

4. Live Food

In the wild, bearded dragons can catch their food themselves. This means that in captivity, you should also give live food to bearded dragons. Some live foods that bearded dragons love to eat include crickets, mealworms, waxworms, and cockroaches. But mealworms are one of those worms that are a bit difficult for bearded dragons to digest. That’s why it’s always advisable to not consider mealworms as bearded dragon’s main food.

5. Vegetables

Bearded dragons are omnivores. This means that they should eat both veggies and bugs. However, sometimes you may find your bearded dragon eating more bugs than veggies. So, should you let your bearded dragon as it is? Like should you try and give your bearded dragon more veggies? Well, yes. Veggies are full of nutrients. You should always give veggies to the dragon. If your bearded dragon isn’t up for eating veggies, do something about it. You can also make a salad and add some bugs to it.
